Update Log
- I began to clean the interior of the car and touch up the plastics as much as I could. There is a criminal amount of sun damage and the dashboard is cracked. Uncetain if the electronics work on the inside or not, as the battery and belt system is messed up at the moment.
- I did an oil change on the car, the last time I think it had one was around 2010. The oil came out normally, there was no forbidden glitter as far as I was aware.
- Purchased the ignition coils and the ignition control module (that's the mount that the ignition coils bolt to/plug into). After a couple hours of painstaking work and thermal paste all over my pants, I managed to get everything in order. They're located in a pain in the dick location that makes the installation very annoying.
- I have a 3.1L V6, no turbo. That means there are three sparkplugs on the front of the engine (the side facing you when you open the hood), and three on the opposite side. The first three sparkplugs, while extremely annoying and painfully rusted, were easy. I am now in the process of rotating the engine. I already undid the motor mounts, and removed the air filter—now all that remains is getting a helping hand to use a prybar and pull the engine forward, so I can access the rear three sparkplugs and change them out.
- I got the alternator that came with the car tested. It works, which saves me a lotta money. Still need to buy a new belt and belt tensioner.
- Aaaand that's where I am right now. I'll update once I get to putting the new spark plug cables on.
- UPDATE DEC 12: I took the hood off and put the rear three sparkplugs in with the help of my Dad (shoutout to him honestly.) I am now fighting the endless battle of trying to figure out how to remount the alternator as I am missing the mounting bolts and the bracket is missing small metal collars that keep the bolts from rattling around. In short, I'm fucked until I can find a replacement set of bolts. I'm ordering the serpentine belt and a new belt tensioner soon so hopefully I can at least mount the tensioner.
- UPDATE JAN 29: Took a handful of new pictures. I will be uploading more incrementally. There has been little work done on the car itself. I have had to suffer through some real life shit so that took a lot of wind out of my sails. BUT, this year I have a goal to get the car running at the very least. See you all soon, and have a good one!
- UPDATE FEB 23: Bought a battery, tested out the electronics. I didn't leave it hooked up for too long, as the alternator still isn't attatched and the car itself doesn't run, but the radio, speakers, most of the accessory lights and the headlights work! I found out there is a FULL tank of gas that's been languishing since 2010 so I'm going to have to siphon that out. It smells awful. All and all, this has been a successful weekend and I'm excited to continue working! See ya'll again soon :)
